An Evening with Groucho
Monday, February 19, 2007
“Nothing short of masterful.”—Chicago TribuneGo to Groucho ticket prices
Irreverent, outrageous and artfully clever, Groucho Marx could bring down the house with one lascivious wag of his famous bushy eyebrows. A fat cigar protruding precariously beneath his trademark mustache, he quipped and sallied from one-liners to wisecracks earning the New York Times’ acclamation as “America’s most gifted funny man”. Actor Frank Ferrante, who has portrayed the comedic icon for 20 years including Off-Broadway, brings Groucho to life in this critically acclaimed show which the Today Show described as “brilliant.” Mastering his loose-limbed physicality and rhythmic delivery, Ferrante recreates some of Groucho’s most famous routines, including the pith-helmeted “Captain Spaulding.” Be sure to catch this hilarious performance by the “greatest living interpreter of Groucho Marx’s material”.

But it was her role as Effie White in The Supremes’ saga, Dreamgirls—and her show-stealing rendition of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going”—that made her an overnight sensation and garnered her a Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Musical and a Grammy for Best Female Performance, Rhythm & Blues. “His melodies haunt, his lyrics reverberate.”—Judy CollinsGo to Tom Paxton ticket prices
A master songwriter from the golden age of folk music, Tom Paxton emerged from the Greenwich Village folk scene in the early ‘60s as a voice of his generation, composing songs about social injustice and commenting, sometimes humorously, on the absurdities of modern culture and politics. During his 40-year career, he has performed concerts all over the world and written hundreds of songs recorded by artists as diverse as Willie Nelson and Placido Domingo. In the words of legendary folk singer Pete Seeger, “Tom’s songs have a way of sneaking up on you. You find yourself humming them, whistling them and singing a verse to a friend.”
